Branches near power lines

Common questions
Send a Street Tree Removal Request to the Parks Maintenance Division, with photos or a map of the tree. Parks Maintenance may inspect it, and if the tree is dead or qualifies for removal, the city schedules the job with its own staff or a city contractor.
Not without a permit. Any tree trimming in Yuba City in, under, or over the public right-of-way, city trees included, needs an encroachment permit from Public Works. Apply at City Hall, 1201 Civic Center Boulevard, or by email before anyone starts cutting.
Title 9 of the Yuba City Municipal Code regulates removing public trees, and approved removals are done by city staff or a city contractor. Cutting one down yourself skips that process and can break city code, so send a removal request to Parks Maintenance first.
No. The removal request form says trees aren't removed for nuisances like pests or debris. The city's forest plan adds that boxelder bugs cause only minor damage, and that aphids and the black sooty mold on their honeydew generally don't harm the tree.
The city's removal request covers public trees, not the ones on your lot. If the work reaches over the street or sidewalk, it may need a Public Works encroachment permit, so ask the tree company what applies before any work is scheduled.
